What inspired you to pursue an online college education, and how did you get started?
What inspired me to go back to school and to pursue online was the fact that I just got out of a 20yr marriage and I was living on my own for the first in my life..And as a disabled woman I don't get out much. So my cousin told me about Campus and the fact you can get a degree right from your home. And everything I have already now are just certified So I prayed about and figured why not get a degree in something? So I decided to go for it.
What challenges have you faced while pursuing your degree online, and how have you overcome them?
The biggest challenge I would probably say is not having the confidence at first to believe I could to it and d it well. But Campus give you a support coach who helps you to get back on track.
How have you balanced your online coursework with other responsibilities, such as work or family?
I don't have any family living with me so my balance is just trying to make sure I don't schedule doctor's appointments on days I might have classes.
What have you found to be the benefits of pursuing a college education online, compared to traditional on-campus learning?
I would say that being able to do classes online on your own time and from the comfort of your home is definitely a huge benefit to me. Doing traditional classes onsite campus to me would not be easy. Because I really don't have anyone to help getting back & forth for one. And two I was never really a big fan of going to school and having to speak in class makes me nervous.
How have you stayed motivated and engaged in your online classes, and what strategies have you used to ensure your success?
What motivates is the fact that I believe that my adoptive parents would have been proud of me going for degree when doctors said I would never be able to do anything in life. What keeps me in engaged is just the desire to learn something new. And I would have to say my biggest strategy for my success is prayer. Because I do any assignments or take any tests or exams I pray. Because I'm not on this online journey alone. God's Got Me!!
What does it signify to you when organizations like Sigma Chi Psi Sorority and Gamma Sigma Gamma Fraternity attempt to bridge the social gap for students who are pursuing their education online?
Bridging two organizations to offer someone like me a chance to be in a sorority such as Sigma Chi Psi and for men to be able to join a Fraternity is a blessing. I have always wanted to be a part of a sorority, but I thought that was only offered to those on-site students. So I'm grateful for the chance to be a part of your organization.
What significance do socializing, networking, and participating in events focused on networking and community service hold for you?
Being able to socialize & network in any capacity is a great way to grow, learn, to give back to your community or anywhere in the world is a gift. I consider myself to be a people person so I love being able to meet & interact with new people. There is always something we can learn from one another.
