What inspired you to pursue an online college education, and how did you get started?

I do a lot of work in my community but I felt like I needed to do more. I figured if I became a part of the justice system I could provide a significant amount of help to my community so I decided to start with pursuing my degree in Criminal Justice.

What challenges have you faced while pursuing your degree online, and how have you overcome them?

I suffer from IIH(Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension) so Im hospitalized a lot. One of my professor's ignored my accommodation letter from the school and refused to allow me to submit my assignments I missed while in the hospital. She failed me, which made my GPA drop so I am currently retaking the class with a different professor. Other than that I haven't faced any challenges.

How have you balanced your online coursework with other responsibilities, such as work or family?

I wake up at 6am every morning and log into class. I stay on there for about 2-3 hours. Then I start my day. Once my day is completed, I log back into school around 8pm and stay online until around 10pm.

What have you found to be the benefits of pursuing a college education online, compared to traditional on-campus learning?

It is more convenient for me. Between my Dr appointments, school, running my business, running errands, deliveries, my community engagements and church, I have to manage my time and make a daily schedule to make sure everything gets completed. I love online school. If I attended a campus, I wouldn't be able to achieve hardly any of those things at all.

How have you stayed motivated and engaged in your online classes, and what strategies have you used to ensure your success?

I just think about all of the shootings/killings, injustice and my wanting to help more to stay motivated for school. I don't think I have used any strategies. I just remain very focused on my studies.

What does it signify to you when organizations like Sigma Chi Psi Sorority and Gamma Sigma Gamma Fraternity attempt to bridge the social gap for students who are pursuing their education online?

It means a lot to me. I always wanted to be apart of a fraternity. Most of my family members were in fraternities. It shows that you all care and you are thinking about EVERYONE and not just the campus students.

What significance does socializing, networking, and participating in events focused on networking and community service hold for you?

As you know I currently participate in these services now and it is a great thing to see organizations such as you all doing the same work. So it is a huge significance for me.

Thank you again for being part of The Digital Connection. Your voice adds depth and meaning to this series, and we’re honored to share your perspective. We look forward to amplifying your story and continuing to build a platform that reflects the diverse journeys of online learners everywhere.
