Sleepy Sloth Bakery. I started my business with my husband as a way to cope. After being diagnosed with a sleep disorder, I had limited work options, so I decided to work for myself. We offer a variety of treats, but our specialty is our cookies.
What inspired you to pursue an online college education, and how did you get started?
I was drawn to online college education for its flexibility and convenience. Once I chose my school and program, the next step involved applying for admission, submitting any required documentation, and completing any necessary financial aid applications. From there, I begin my online studies.
What challenges have you faced while pursuing your degree online, and how have you overcome them?
My most common challenge of being an online student is time management. It was essential for me to create a schedule that allocate dedicated time for studying, attending classes, and completing assignments.
How have you balanced your online coursework with other responsibilities, such as work or family?
Balancing my coursework with other responsibilities such as family and owning a business is challenging. I prioritize tasks, set realistic goals, and avoid procrastination to help me stay on track and manage my time effectively. I also maintain a wonderful support system to keep me on track.
What have you found to be the benefits of pursuing a college education online, compared to traditional on-campus learning?
Online education provides flexibility in scheduling, which allows me to access course materials and lectures at times that align with my unpredictable sleep patterns. This flexibility is particularly advantageous since I have a sleep disorder and struggle with maintaining a consistent sleep schedule. With online education, I have the freedom to study and complete assignments during periods when I feel most alert and productive.
How have you stayed motivated and engaged in your online classes, and what strategies have you used to ensure your success?
To stay motivated and engaged in my online classes, I've implemented several strategies to ensure my success. I set clear and achievable goals for myself, both short-term and long-term, to keep myself focused and motivated. I create a structured study routine and schedule dedicated time for studying and completing assignments.
What does it signify to you when organizations like Sigma Chi Psi Sorority and Gamma Sigma Gamma Fraternity attempt to bridge the social gap for students who are pursuing their education online?
To me, this effort signifies a recognition of the importance of social connection and support in the academic journey, regardless of the mode of education. By providing opportunities for online students to connect with peers who share similar experiences and aspirations, these organizations foster a sense of belonging and camaraderie that is essential for academic success and personal growth.
What significance does socializing, networking, and participating in events focused on networking and community service hold for you?
Socializing allows me to build meaningful connections with others, fostering a sense of belonging and camaraderie that enriches my life and brings joy and fulfillment. By interacting with diverse individuals, I gain new perspectives, ideas, and experiences that broaden my horizons and contribute to personal growth and development. Networking allows me to exchange knowledge and expertise, explore potential career paths, and stay informed about industry trends and developments. By volunteering my time and skills to support worthy causes, I not only contribute to the greater good but also develop a sense of purpose and fulfillment.
Thank you again for being part of The Digital Connection. Your voice adds depth and meaning to this series, and we’re honored to share your perspective. We look forward to amplifying your story and continuing to build a platform that reflects the diverse journeys of online learners everywhere.
