A Look Back, A Step Forward: Sigma Chi Psi and Gamma Sigma Gamma Celebrate a Pivotal Moment in Student Support

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 29, 2025
Durham, NC – As conversations around inclusive student support continue to grow in 2025, Sigma Chi Psi and Gamma Sigma Gamma are reflecting on a key milestone that marked a turning point in their journey: their historic participation in Durham Technical Community College’s Student Resource Fair on October 31, 2024.
This event was the first time SCP and GSG were invited by an academic institution to formally present their resources, signaling a growing recognition of the need for support systems tailored to non-traditional, online, trade, and community college students.
President Nakia Shy, along with Candice Robinson and Patrice Charles, represented Sigma Chi Psi at the event, where they stood alongside prominent leaders in student success:
Dr. Holly June (Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.), Dean of Student Services
Tiffany Robinson (Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.), Lead Success Coach
Dwanecia "Dway" Pulliam (Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.), Coordinator of Student Engagement and Enrichment
Together, these changemakers reinforced the importance of community-rooted organizations in elevating student achievement.
“Even months later, we look back on this moment with pride and purpose,” said Nakia Shy, President of SCP. “Being welcomed by Durham Tech was not just an event—it was a signal that our mission to support students in every learning environment is being heard and valued.”
SCP had previously been invited to participate in a campus panel at Durham Tech, where Fransine Sanchez spoke on behalf of the organization—another indicator of their growing presence in academic spaces.
As Sigma Chi Psi and Gamma Sigma Gamma move into the second half of 2025, they continue to build on this momentum. Their mission remains focused on providing access to Greek life for online students—offering them opportunities for connection, leadership, and community that are often unavailable in virtual learning environments. With a growing network of supporters, both organizations are actively seeking new institutional partnerships to expand their impact nationwide.
